Senate Inquiry Must Fix Flaws in Gambling Bill
Responsible Wagering Australia is disappointed that, despite undertaking a consultation process, the Government has failed to adopt any industry recommendations to improve its gambling advertising legislation.
RWA CEO Kai Cantwell said the industry’s feedback focused on strengthening the package by providing greater clarity around key definitions, including the treatment of celebrities and influencers, and addressing a number of practical implementation issues.
“We welcome the referral of the legislation to a Senate Inquiry, which will provide a real opportunity to publicly examine the draconian and overreaching elements of this Bill and ensure Parliament has the opportunity to correct provisions that extend well beyond the Government’s stated policy intent,” Mr Cantwell said.
“RWA remains committed to engaging with Parliament throughout the Inquiry to ensure the final legislation is effective, proportionate and delivers the intended outcomes for punters and industry.”
