Responsible Wagering Australia supports GambleAware Week 2020
MEDIA RELEASE: Responsible Wagering Australia and its members proudly support GambleAware Week – (running 19-25 October) a partnership between industry, community groups, sporting clubs and the NSW Government’s Office of Responsible Gambling.
According to Brent Jackson CEO Responsible Wagering Australia – the peak-body for Australian‑licensed online wagering service providers – the Week is a worthwhile initiative that will raise awareness about the importance of being gambling ‘aware’ and betting responsibly.
“With footy grand finals about to kick off and the Spring Racing Carnival underway, it’s a fitting time to take stock of our gambling. Positively, the vast majority of Australian punters do so safely and responsibly.
“Australia’s licensed online wagering operators lead the way in offering consumer protections and responsible gambling measures. Since 2018, the National Consumer Protection Framework for online wagering has delivered one of the most comprehensive regulatory frameworks anywhere in the world.
“Responsible gambling, strong regulation and strong consumer protections are a central focus of the online wagering industry in Australia. In fact, online betting is covered by over 17,000 pages of legislation and regulations.
“Every account held with an Australian licensed operator provides a range of responsible gambling features including: instant self-banning options, time-outs, setting of deposit limits, prohibition of lines of credit, mandatory identity verification checks and access to resources for how to get help.
“We remain strong supporters of GambleAware Week and applaud the NSW Government on this year’s theme of checking in on others, which is so important as we all deal with the stress and pressure brought on by the COVID crisis” said Mr Jackson.
